Joining the national effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic is local eyewear brand Sunnies Studios, which has pledged to donate 3000 pairs of certified medical-grade goggles and 5000 pairs of prescription frames to various Philippine medical facilities.

"Sunnies Studios has pledged to donate 5000 prescription frames and 3000 certified medical grade goggles to over 50 hospitals and quarantine centers in the Philippines," the label's creative director Martine Ho announced in an Instagram post. "Working every day with our team to do more," she added.

Data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that wearing goggles or even simple prescription glasses can form a physical barrier to protect your face and your eyes from infected droplets and germs in the air. The American Academy of Ophthalmology also outlined in their website: “When a sick person coughs or talks, virus particles can spray from their mouth or nose into another person’s face...You’re most likely to inhale these droplets through your mouth or nose, but they can also enter through your eyes.”

Sunnies' move follows the efforts of the fellow homegrown fashion industry friends behind Manila Protective Gear Sewing Club and Fashion For Frontliners, all of whom have banded together to produce personal protective gear (PPEs) for Filipino healthcare personnel.
