Today, President Rodrigo Duterte is delivering his fifth State of the Nation Address, albeit a little differently than in previous years. Aside from the strict health protocols, a maximum of only 50 guests are allowed inside the halls of Batasang Pambansa. Guests of the SONA usually take the opportunity to embrace the very best of Filipiniana attire while adding their own modern twist.
Although the usual red carpet won’t be rolled out this year, attendees still took the chance to wear proudly Filipino designs. There’s also a striking detail that most of their outfits featured: a brooch. Featuring the rays of the sun, the “Araw Brooch” is a project of the Philippine Fashion Coalition in partnership with accessory brand, Tropik Beatnik. It represents “confidence despite challenges, profound wisdom, stability, and unity.” An inspiring reminder given everything that has happened this year.
