Here’s What the Stylish Attendees Wore to This Year’s SONA

Today, President Rodrigo Duterte is delivering his fifth State of the Nation Address, albeit a little differently than in previous years. Aside from the strict health protocols, a maximum of only 50 guests are allowed inside the halls of Batasang Pambansa. Guests of the SONA usually take the opportunity to embrace the very best of Filipiniana attire while adding their own modern twist.

Although the usual red carpet won’t be rolled out this year, attendees still took the chance to wear proudly Filipino designs. There’s also a striking detail that most of their outfits featured: a brooch. Featuring the rays of the sun, the “Araw Brooch” is a project of the Philippine Fashion Coalition in partnership with accessory brand, Tropik Beatnik. It represents “confidence despite challenges, profound wisdom, stability, and unity.” An inspiring reminder given everything that has happened this year.

Cong. Stella Quimbo dons a luxe baro designed by Vania Romoff.

Stella’s second outfit was a striking black outfit with white piping from Kaayo Modern Mindanao.

Cong. Ging Suansing steps out in a playful, zigzag-printed dress by Ivarluski  Aseron.

Cong. Vilma Santos Recto keeps it classic in a butterfly-sleeved pina top  from her own wardrobe.

Deputy Speaker Evie Escudero shines in a luxe two-piece ensemble by Vania Romoff.

Cong. Lani Cayetano opts for an elegant, colorful look with a baby pink blouse and blue skirt designed by Onin Pagsisihan.

Department of Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo Puyat looks sleek in a midnight blue midi gown with geometric accents by Ivarluski Aseron.

Marga Nograles, pictured with Sec. Karlo Nograles, wears a fresh, all-white ensemble with blue piping and embroidery from Kaayo Modern Mindanao.

Senator Risa Hontiveros opted for a simple yet stylish white guipere lace dress with babydoll-like butterfly sleeves. 

Pia Cayetano dons a blue Michael Leyva number featuring indigenous fabric from the Mandaya tribe, Dagmay.

Cong. Ann Hofer wears a classic baro't saya designed by OJ Hofer. It's embellished with opals and features an elegant scoop neckline.
