Thanks to Demna Gvasalia's reawakening of the big silhouette, we're now able to get away with anything oversized. One easy way to get into the trend is by way of a piece that has the ability to look both tailored and pared down—the trusty office blazer.
Street style stars have been seen sporting them in oversized fits during fashion week, including Kim Jones, who seems to have made it her uniform. We can't blame her for making the oversized blazer her new go-to, though. It's a versatile piece that will have you ready from desk to dinner in a snap. Below, we enumerate a few styling tricks we've gleaned from Kim on how to wear the boxy blazer.
Wear it with wide-legged trousers.
When in doubt, go all the way with the exaggerated fit. Ash-colored coordinates may look a little too somber, so add in a few pops of shimmer with your accessories. In Kim's case, metallic pumps and a gold pendant necklace make the perfect outfit add-ons.
Pair with tees and slits.
The problem with wearing oversized pieces is that they have the tendency to overwhelm your frame, especially if you're on the petite side. To balance the amount of coverage on your upper half, bare some skin on the bottom half. You don't even have to wear a mini skirt or micro shorts, a knee-length pencil skirt with a thigh-high slit will deliver the same effect.
Femme it up.
To offset an oversized blazer's boxy fit and angular look, dress in feminine pieces. Case in point: Check out how Kim paired her blazer with a lacy slip dress. The delicate fabric softens the look without compromising the blazer's structure and polished tailoring.
In the photo below, she demonstrates this again by pairing a black, no-nonsense blazer with an airy crochet dress.
