Style Bible Speed Round: Why Ruffa Gutierrez Chose Career Over Love At 19 Get to know a different side of the statuesque Preview Girl.

Yesterday, we were treated by the stunning Ruffa Gutierrez to a pampering day at Beauty & Butter SM Megamall to celebrate two things: her birthday and the success of her family’s top-rating show, It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez. As we continue our Preview 19th Anniversary Special, read on to know a few things we bet you didn’t know about the certified Preview Girl.

WHEN I WAS 19...

Describe 19 year-old Ruffa.

The 19-year-old Ruffa was very hard working, she didn’t have time to rest, she was busy back to back making films and shooting endorsements. The 19-year-old Ruffa just came back from South Africa, was on a high because she had just placed in the Miss World competition. It was a great time, it was one of the best moments in my life because I was able to represent the country and a lot of people were there to cheer for me. I’ll never forget that moment because even people from different countries were telling me that I should’ve won and were cheering me on. It was the perfect time.

What did you find most challenging when you were 19?

I guess my challenge was balancing my career and my love life at that time. I was dating somebody and I didn’t have time for him anymore. At that moment, I had endless opportunities and the future was bright and I’m so sorry but I didn’t have time to watch movies in Megamall or go to Whistle Stop and eat, I just didn’t have time anymore. That was a point in my life when I had to choose between love and career and obviously I chose career. Because I was not in the position yet to start my own family.

What’s the most important lesson you've learned when you were 19?

To follow your dreams and to welcome the opportunities that come your way because they only knock once and if you don’t grab it, it can go to someone else. So for me, a lot of my peers were thinking about getting married and starting a family and I chose a different route. And that’s one positive lesson that I’ve learned and I have no regrets.

ON BEING A PREVIEW GIRL…

Which of your Preview covers is your favorite?

I think the very first. I was still living in Turkey at that time and it was the winter edition, I think that was my first cover. I really liked it because at that time I was living in Turkey, I’m a mom,  I had just given birth and here I am on a fashion magazine. So it was cool, I really liked it, I bought like 300 copies, and I gave it to all my friends in Turkey. All the moms were so amazed that this expat girl was on a cover of a fashion magazine.

How would you describe a Preview Girl?

Preview girl is fashion forward, fun, knows what she wants, fierce, youthful, trendy, and empowered.

JUST CURIOUS…

Can you run in heels?

Depends what kind of heels. If they’re cheap no, because my feet will hurt and the heel will probably break. But if they’re sturdy shoes, I can, yes.

If you were given the chance to go back to the evening gown segment of the 1993 Miss World pageant, whose design would you wear?

Elie Saab! I just love Elie Saab, it’s more me. I love glitz, glam, and bling, and I think Elie Saab is very classy and I would love for him to do my gown.
