Henry Sy, Sr., Southeast Asia's richest man, passed away on the morning of Saturday, January 19, 2019. He was 94. His son, Hans Sy, confirmed the news.
The Chinese-Filipino businessman founded the SM Group, which owns some of the biggest retail, banking, and property ventures in the Philippines. He opened the first Shoemart on Carriedo in 1958 that grew exponentially to become one of the country's most dynamic conglomerates.
His legacy lives on.
