Skechers Turns Samal Island Into a Summer Playground for “Slip Into Summer Comfort”

With a firm grasp on culture since 1992, Skechers has long made footwear that moves with the times. From platform sneakers in the Spice Girls era to its chunky “dad shoes” fronted by Britney Spears, the California-based brand has consistently tuned in to what people want to wear.

This range has helped Skechers remain one of the top global footwear players over the past decade.

This season, Skechers embraces a sunshine-state of mind with its Slip Into Summer Comfort activation at Discover Samal. Running on island time, guests spent three leisurely days trying out the brand’s latest innovations through a series of hands-on activities. From traveling and yoga to pickleball and a beach cleanup, here’s what went down.

From the moment guests stepped into their GO WALK Glide-Step 2.0 Sandals, the ease was on display. We dashed out the door with luggage, then slipped them off and on again at airport security without a second thought.

The sandals came in cream, taupe, olive, pink, and black, worn across a packed itinerary of island activities.

It worked just as well for beach parties and slow walks along the shore as it did for light hikes, as Isabelle Daza noted during the program. The pair kept up with the pace of the itinerary without drawing attention to itself, offering steady comfort and support throughout the day.

The brand’s activewear—including high-waisted leggings, moisture-wicking Go Flex skorts with pockets, and full-support sports bras—emerged as a quiet highlight of the trip. Worn through yoga sessions and other activities, the pieces balanced ease and function without getting in the way of movement.

And speaking of fitness trends, Skechers has also developed footwear specifically for pickleball, one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. With court numbers now reaching over a thousand, the Philippines has built one of the largest pickleball communities in Southeast Asia, and after a brief session led by the Philippine Pickleball Federation, it’s easy to see why.

Often described as a cross between tennis, table tennis, and badminton, the game is dynamic without being as physically demanding as other racket sports. The Skechers Pickleball line is designed to support the lateral movement and quick directional changes the sport requires. The court shoes feature the brand’s Arch Fit insole for impact absorption and more even weight distribution, while the outsole uses Goodyear rubber—known for its durability in tires—for added grip and traction on court.
