One of the most exciting things about weddings is the theme, and in recent years, there’s been a resurge of local, Filipiniana-inspired nuptials! Whether you’re attending a wedding soon or planning one yourself, you don’t want to miss this. There’s a new online boutique called Sinta & Co. that offers stunning wedding items, from ceremony essentials to handcrafted accessories made of native materials showcasing age-old heritage and craftsmanship.
Sinta & Co. was founded by Gelaine Santiago and her husband, Jérôme Gagnon-Voyer. They’re the same couple behind ethical retailer Cambio & Co., carrying products from social enterprises in the Philippines. This year, Gelaine was also named as one of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants for 2019 by the Royal Bank of Canada and Canadian Immigrant Magazine.
Named after the old Tagalog word for “love,” Sinta & Co. shares the same conscious ethos of Cambio & Co., empowering couples here and abroad to celebrate Filipino heritage and culture on their wedding day. Their website offers this as an explanation behind starting the brand:
"When we got married in June 2018, it was important to have a wedding that incorporated both our cultures and family heritage in meaningful ways. We searched high and low for Filipino wedding resources—scripts in Tagalog, the history and significance of the candle, cord, veil, and other Filipino cultural traditions, and bridal accessories. After speaking with other friends in our community, we realized this wasn't just a challenge we faced, but (one) that couples face around the world."
Aside from planning tips, the shop offers items made by local artisans using indigenous materials and traditional techniques. These products range from stylish accessories and wedding party gifts to timeless ceremony essentials. Choose from elegant capiz clutches and vintage golden hairpieces to golden filigree wedding bands and classic veils and cords!
