Where beach season is all about traipsing on the sand and wading in the sea, these summer activities wouldn’t be complete without the idyllic swimwear to give you a boost of confidence while out and about in the sun. However, if you’re not too comfortable flashing your skin in a skimpy bikini, worry not as donning a two-piece isn’t the only way to feel sexy and free. Why not take your pick from Shop Style Cat’s newest swimwear line in collaboration with fashion blogger and designer Renee de Guzman to get the best of both worlds?
Rendered in six inviting colorways, including rust, white, and navy colors, as contrast to the often too striking shades of this season, Renee’s uniquely belted designs will have you looking every bit like a modern, sexy, and sophisticated ‘50s beach babe, whether you choose to don a one-piece or a two-piece to your next vacation. “For this collaboration, we focused on the vintage era especially swimwear in the 1950s. I designed based on the contrast of colors and also mixed the old and modern in this collection,” Renee tells Preview.

How did your collaboration with Shop Style Cat come about?
"I remember Yuki [Tansengco], the owner of Shop Style Cat, messaging me one day and asking me if I was game to design for their Summer 2019 collection which I definitely said yes to."
Tell us about your design aesthetic for this collab? How would you describe the collection?
"For this collaboration, we focused on the vintage era especially swimwear in the 1950s. I designed based on the contrast of colors and also mixed the old and modern in this collection. I wanted to bring back the 1950s fashion gems, which became the elements of the collection."
Is there a signature design or key element evident throughout your designs?
"Throughout the whole collection of swimwear, we focused a lot on the combination of things from the buckles used up until the contrast stitching on the swimwear. The latter also applies to some of the bags we’ve done!"
What's special about this collection compared to other new summer swimwear lines?
"What sets us apart would definitely be the details we placed on the swimwear. I feel like the belts and the contrast stitchings on the swimwear set us apart already aside from the designs we did."
Did you face any difficulties along the way?
"The fit of the garment was our main concern and [comfort] as well. Given that, we were really hands on with production and we also had to make sure that the minor details were correctly followed."
Can you describe the kind of girl that fits your designs?
"For this collection, I feel like every kind of girl who loves the beach life or to travel will find one swimwear to wear out of the three designs we’ve created. The best thing about our swimwear is that it also doesn’t pick a season. You can wear it everywhere and all year round."
What's next for you?
"That’s a pretty tough question. Hopefully, I get to pursue my post-graduate within the coming years already and maybe work on mini collections or projects along the way. We’ll see where the wind blows [laughs]!"
