The Halloween spirit was alive and well at the 2026 edition of Shake, Rattle, and Ball. Hosted at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, the annual soirée stepped into a lucid state as it prompted guests to come dressed as either their wildest dreams or their worst nightmares.
For the event founder and Preview 30 Icon Tim Yap, the ball is more than just another reason to throw on a costume. After years of shaping Manila's party scene, Tim wanted to curate an evening with no inhibitions about self-expression.
"Tonight there will be no limits," he told Preview minutes before the event unfolded. "You can be whoever you want to be. There are no boundaries [with] who you can become."
The "Lucid" Dream of Tim Yap
For years now, Tim and his Yaparazzi team have been gathering different sectors of the creative community for a night of frights and delights. Since its inception, Shake, Rattle, and Ball has aimed to ignite a person's creative spark through its imaginative themes. This year, the eventologist reflected on the idea of dreams and how endless the possibilities are when one surrenders to the imagination.
"I wanna explore the theme of freedom," he muses. "'Lucid' is about that space [between] when you're dreaming and when you're awake. I want to gather the dreamers—our friends and the people in the scene—to explore the freedom to express themselves."

Such a prompt drew a variety of personas, from the ghoulish and macabre to the glamorous and bodacious. Anyone who stepped into the venue that night had free rein to express themselves as anything they could imagine.
Year in and year out, Tim's Halloween get-together exemplifies the sheer power of human creativity. "Halloween is a gathering of many different industries. Different worlds collide all together," he explains. "It's not just about attending a ball. It's about [creating] a world where all these different people from different industries—from fashion and art to media—gather together."
Under the strobe lights and upbeat tunes, Tim observes a collision of energies that might otherwise never have met. "What happens is really that natural combustion, that natural synergy of all these different people together," he says.
"That's the intention. That's why we do it again and again and again."

What Guests Wore to "Shake, Rattle, and Ball: Lucid"
As expected, the liberal dress code was interpreted in a myriad of ways. For one, droves of angels descended upon the venue, with the likes of Alden Richards, Bea Millan-Windorski, LA Aguinaldo, and Lyn Alumno all flocking together. Wingspans varied from petite to grand, making the ballroom feel just like holy ground.
Grandiose silhouettes and glamorous motifs were also abundant throughout the night. Ahtisa Manalo was a baroque goddess sent from above, and Niana Guerrero was a feathered golden deity ready to wage war. Hannah Locsin shone in silver accents, while our very own versions of Kendall and Kylie Jenner turned up in their campy Met Gala attire.
Of course, a Halloween ball needs to have some menacing sights. The man of the hour interpreted the "Theme Yap" as Polyphemus, the one-eyed, man-eating giant of Greek mythology. Other guests who were dressed to kill were model Cassandra Chan in a hypnotizing Cairoden Radiamoda ensemble, and Inigo Pascual in a fierce Jaggy Glarino look. Perhaps most horrifying of all is a biting commentary on the Philippines' current political climate, expressed with just enough gore to get under one's skin.
Some attendees pulled out all the stops for their costumes, letting cumbersome props and accoutrements do all the talking. The fear of death, for one, was personified by a walking open casket. Others employed animatronics, headpieces, and literal hardware to capture the otherworldly energy they sought.
Pop culture proved to be one of the key touchstones of the costume party. Andrea Brillantes took the theme to heart, manifesting her nightmare of being naked in public by... well, appearing practically naked in public! With nothing but her platinum blonde hair and newspaper strips covering her up, she was the ultimate scene-stealer of the night.
Other attendees referenced superheroes, superstitions, and superstars with their looks, showcasing that there is no singular way to go about Halloween.
