Sometimes fifty shades of black and white just won’t do when it comes to decorating a space. After all, what’s life without color? Here, we share a couple of tips we picked up from Rosanna Ocampo when it comes to playing with neon hues.
1. Grey walls are the perfect blank canvas.
You might ask, “Why not black?” And the answer is: Enclosed rooms with dark walls will require you to crank up the light for you to be able to work properly — certainly not energy-efficient. Also, do you really want your office to look like a bar? Off white may be a good choice too. Just think of Chanel’s Métiers d'Art 2015 collection.
2. Be consistent with your color selections.
If you think for one second that you should use everything available in the Crayola box, then you’re dead wrong. Decide on a color family, whether it’s pastel, neon or jewel tones.
3. Best keep your furniture neutral.
Not unless you’re sure that you’ll never tire of a technicolor couch or dresser (Iris Apfel, is that you?), its best to tone things down when it comes to your furniture. Leave the color to the accent pieces that you can easily change once you’ve grown weary of them.
4. Quirky pieces always lend a little more character.
As in Vania Romoff's space, always have one statement piece in your space that’s sure to spark up a good conversation. Surely your guests would love to know where you got that vintage Singer sewing machine. Or how you draped that gorgeous frock on the velveteen dress form.
