After hit collaborations with Rajo Laurel, Oliver Tolentino, and Amina Aranáz, Rags2Riches (RIIR) launches their first solely-designed line of bags called Newel. The introduction of the latest collection at Greenbelt 5 last March 19 was filled with a lot of firsts as the brand also unveiled the talented artisans who made it all possible, by weaving in their inspiring life stories through each purse made. The night ended with the revelation of their first-ever style advocate: celebrity, fashion aficionado, and every bit the epitome of a modern, fashion forward RIIR woman, Bianca Gonzalez.
Newel was inspired by the complex designs and exceptional weaves called tinalak, from the T’boli tribe of Mindanao. There are five vibrant bags in the collection: the Hedem Hobo Bag (thinking woman), Ofi Clutch (fire), Kena Hobo Bag (dream), Kulon Clutch (fist), and Benwu Tote Bag (world). Each made for different occasions, all pieces showcased a smart juxtaposition of two different types of weaves from two communities. The display of clever contrast was indeed refreshing and exciting, making every piece a standout and true embodiment of the brand's guiding elements: style, substance, and sustainability.
