We were floored when H&M released its new swimwear campaign featuring Nadine Lustre and Maja Salvador. The collection features pieces selected by the celebrities themselves, so we couldn’t wait to get our hands on them! Well, one fashionista who did get a hold of the collection (very quickly) was none other than Rei Germar.
As we all know, Rei is obsessed with bikinis as she’s a beach lover herself, so we were quite intrigued to hear what she has to say about this H&M collection. Here are all the pieces she showed in her recent vlog and her honest opinions on the designs:
1. Orange triangle bikini
“It’s giving me a different kind of energy. I super love this.”
If you follow Rei on Instagram, then you know how much she loves triangle bikinis. She bought a couple from the collection, but her favorite is this orange design featuring golden rivulet accents. “Feel ko triangle bikini tops are perfect for my chest,” she says.
2. Textured bikini
“It hugs my body. I like it so much. Ito 'yung kind of bikini top that gives you sporty vibes.”
You know those super trendy textured bikinis you see everywhere on Instagram? Well, H&M produced its own variation, and Rei copped not one, but two sets in black and white! The set comes with a square-neckline bikini top and high-cut bottoms, both of which provide a good, snug fit to make sure they stay put.
3. Zebra print one-piece
“It’s so simple, but for me, ang ganda niya.”
If you recall the collection’s campaign video (which naturally went viral), Nadine sported a chic zebra-printed one-piece, which Rei was able to buy! She elaborates that the design features a low-back, a regular cut in the crotch area, and adjustable straps. The regular cut offers ample coverage, Rei explains, and only slightly exposes the buttocks. Plus, she says that one-piece swimsuits are great because they double as tops!
4. A textured white one-piece suit
“Feeling ko ang tangkad ko.”
Speaking of suits worn as tops, Rei also got her hands on a textured white one-piece swimsuit, which she wore in the video with high-waisted, bleached denim shorts. The perfect casual summer look, if you ask us! Aside from its laidback appeal, she also says that the piece can be worn for more formal affairs too, when styled with sophisticated bottoms like “wide-legged pants.” As a swimsuit, Rei says that the design’s high cut is flattering because it elongates the legs, while the fabric and fit hug her waist just right.
5. Neon green bikini
“Sobrang love ko ‘to!”
Not all bikini tops are made equal, even though they come in similar necklines. Here, Rei flaunts a seemingly simple bikini set in neon green, a unique pop of color! The top exudes a sportier vibe than the rest of the collection, which, Rei shares, can be worn over and over again. She wasn’t particularly fond of the bikini bottom though, as it didn’t provide ample coverage down there.
6. Cheetah print triangle bikini set
“Perfect ng pagka-triangle niya.”
In another episode of “Rei tries on a triangle bikini,” she goes for an atypical but highly fashionable design with a fierce cheetah print. To amplify the design’s sexy appeal, it comes with subtle side boob cutouts and gold hardware at the back of the top. Aside from the design’s adjustable straps, Rei reveals that all the tops she bought had bra pads—nice!
7. Gold maillot
“Get one size bigger.”
The maillot didn’t quite meet Rei’s expectations, but that’s because it was a size too small for her. The fabric wasn’t as stretchy as expected. Despite the tight fit, Rei still loves the design, which features a shiny golden fabric. “Sobrang ganda talaga nito!”
BONUS: Rei’s shopping tip
Her main takeaway from the collection? She acknowledges that given our current situation, heading to the beach is out of the question, so you can shop to stock up on swimsuits for future use, or buy pieces you can wear as tops now. “Kuha kayo ng mga swimsuits na magagamit niyo as tops like this one-piece [I’m wearing] or bandeau types na magagamit niyo as tops, parang bralette.”
Plus, Rei also reveals that most of the pieces are priced under P1000, with her most expensive find being P1600. You can shop H&M’s Nadine and Maja collection in stores. We’re hoping they’ll make it available online soon!
