Blake Samson is the Design and Creative Manager of System Preferences, an agency that consults on brand development and visual design. She helps businesses (like Alexander Wang, Lacoste, and Saint Laurent—no biggie) better engage with their customers on the daily...but these days, she's just a happy newlywed with the coolest sense of style. Check out how she donned of-the-moment chunky sandals to walk down the aisle:
Here, we pause for a quick chat with Blake to dissect her out-of-the-box "I do" look.
Tell us about your outfit! Who is that gorgeous babydoll lace dress by? And the black sandals?
"The dress and sandals are both from Cecilie Bahnsen—the sandals were a collab with Suicoke. Also, I don’t know what material [the dress] was exactly, but it wasn’t lace. We all thought it was, but it had a plastic-like texture to it."
Why did you decide to wear this designer?
"I‘ve been eyeing her stuff for a few years now and thought I would wear one of her dresses for our civil wedding in Germany, but didn’t really happen. Then, I was looking around like two weeks before this wedding [in the Philippines], found this dress, and thought "why not" since I always wanted to wear her stuff. It was a size bigger [than my usual], but I felt that it being slightly bigger would add to its charm. [Laughs.] I really wanted to look like a girl who emerged from the forest after picking wildflowers, if that makes sense."
Your choice of a chunky sandal is super cool and off-kilter. Why'd you decide to go with it and veto the usual dainty bridal shoe?
"My main reason for picking everything at both weddings was to make sure I could wear every piece to death even afterwards. I felt it was ridiculous to wear something just for the day. I couldn’t stomach it. It was a back-and-forth argument with family, with them saying it was a special, once-in-a-lifetime event. This was the reason why all my outfits were last-minute purchases—I still wanted, of course, to consider how they felt. But really, in the end it‘s about being able to wear something a million times after. There was a similar collab with Perks and Mini and Suicoke that I wanted but wasn’t able to get and it was exactly this shape. So, when I saw [these sandals], I didn’t think about it anymore and just clicked add to cart. [Laughs] Also, I wanted to make sure I could move at the wedding (and sprint away from inappropriate questions, if ever). [Laughs] So super comfy sandals it was."
Where was your wedding held? Did the location matter when you were choosing your look?
"It was held in our beach house. I had to, like, adjust the location to the theme more. I chose our beach house because the church wedding was really for my grandparents. I wanted them to celebrate this milestone with me...they can’t really travel as much so I brought it all to them!"
