Ready, Set, Splurge! Start the year shop-smart by keeping tabs on the month's hottest sales.

One of the best things about New Year will always be the massive end-of-season sales. Just like any fashion mission, it's best to have a game plan and a target in mind. So kick off your stilettos and arm yourself with five shopping tips to get the best deals with your hard-earned paycheck.

#1 Know your target.

First, clean out your closet and know which items you already have (and what you really need). Keep your favorites in mind so you can mix and match with items on sale. This is also the best time to get rid of stuff you promised to wear but never did, as well as the pieces that don’t fit you quite as they used to, to make space for your new purchases.

#2 Stick to your budget.

Sure, it’s always easy to shop using a credit card, but stop yourself from buying way too much if you know you can’t pay in full when the bill comes. You don’t want to start the year drowning in debt!  Should you wish to splurge, take advantage of those three-month installments at 0% interest offered by most stores.

#3 Set a battle plan.

Know the hot spots and get there early! Here’s a list of the stores on sale:

#4 Keep it comfy.

Ditch those heels and wear your trusty flats instead so you can peruse the racks with ease. Wear something easy to remove, like a shift dress or a slouchy tee (avoid button-downs!),  so you can try on clothes without much effort. Also, go for a sling bag so both hands are free!

#5 Rally your troops.

It’s best to have a shopping buddy for a second opinion, to help you decide which items to get and keep buyers remorse at bay. Plus, you’ll also have someone to take turns with when queuing up in the fitting room and the counter. Talk about teamwork!
