Eco-ethical advocates from the world of fashion came together once again for the launch of the Fall-Holiday '09 collection of Rags 2 Riches by Aranaz. Using RIIR's signature fabric scraps as materials, bag designer Amina Aranaz-Alunan served up new rosette clutches, fringed abaca bags, and woven totes created by the women of Payatas.

The night also used the humble Walis Tambo or straw broom as inspiration. For the display, Dustin Reyes created a stunning Autumn tree made out of brooms, while students from the School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA) designed dresses with the raw materials of the broom.

In keeping with the RIIR signature of social entrepreneurship, Amina created one-of-a-kind bags that went up for silent auction. Aranaz promised that the proceeds from the auction, as well as 10% of the Fall-Holiday sales this month, will go to relief efforts for the flood victims of typhoon Ondoy. For their part, event sponsor MasterCard will donate $1 to the Rags2Riches Enterprise Activation Program for every Fall collection single receipt purchase made with a MasterCard card.
