We never thought we’d have to go fundamental, but in the light of yesterday’s designer t-shirt fiasco and the divisive reactions we saw on social media (“Is there anything wrong about wearing fake?” was a question.), we thought it best to revisit the luxury shopping thought process.
Ask yourself these two questions when standing in front of an all too enticing show window.
Can I afford it?
So you really want that $1000 designer t-shirt but Dolce and Gabbana barely knows you to make you their muse. Are you financially able to acquire the original thing? (We all know that buying Balenchaka or Alexander Huang is uncool, yes?)
Will I have enough funds after I make that purchase?
Rent, utilities, loans, your next meal—do you have the money to pay for these important things after you’ve had your designer fix? It won’t make sense to carry that chevron Chanel Boy if it means wearing it to your walk of shame.
Here, we put together a flowchart to help you handle your next shopping temptation. We’ve also listed all the legit ways you can exercise your designer taste—whether or not you have the designer budget.
