Pat Bondoc and Rik Rasos, the duo behind indie label Proudrace, have something up their sleeves: a tribute to their gang of skaters, their girlfriends, and motley of cool culture renegades. Gang Of is Proudrace's Spring/Summer 2012 offering, "a collection of restrained recklessness and go-to uniforms of anyone who wants to be part of our gang," according to the two.
Bondoc and Rasos took inspiration from several things for Gang Of: the uniform dressing of various religious groups, their memories of MTV's House of Style, the chic style of supermodels, and the perky rebelliousness of teenage youths. "We presented these subtly in silhouettes of throwback skater classics while still staying true to the label's minimalist aesthetic," they say.
What resulted is a lineup of darkly monochromatic separates cut from comfy stretch cotton, cotton twill, silk chiffon, terry cloth, and kidskin leather. Pullovers and tees are slouchy according to the label's comfort-is-vital style, and even the sexiest garments (sheer tops and skirts) are cut away from the body to keep in tune with the series' loose aesthetic.
"We created our own world for our Spring/Summer 2012 collection," Bondoc and Rasos say. "A cult to represent everything that we believe in and loved from our youth and our modern observations now."
