The Preview Emerging Fashion Talent Awards (PEFTA) comes back this year to shine the spotlight on Manila's youngest and brightest fashion design talents.
Preview magazine partnered with the metro's top fashion design schools—Slim's Fashion and Arts School, the Fashion Institute of the Philippines (FIP), the School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA), and the University of the Philippines' Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design Department (UP)—which nominated several students who make up a talent pool from which Preview's editor-in-chief Pauline Juan, creative director Vince Uy, and fashion editor Daryl Chang have chosen ten finalists. The finalists were chosen based on the strength of their submitted portfolios, which showcase their respective takes on this year's challenge and theme, "Silhouette".
These ten finalists have been given seed money to execute one design from their set of sketches as chosen by the Preview editors. They will then present these creations to PEFTA 2012's panel of judges, who will narrow down the PEFTA student designers to five based on the creativity, craftsmanship, and retail potential of their creations. The five students designers will then join five other emerging talents who have been establishing their names in the Philippine fashion industry.
In September of this year, Preview will stage the Preview Emerging Talent Awards, where the ten PEFTA designers—both students and emerging artists—will present their capsule collections to an exclusive audience of industry pillars and professionals. Big prizes are at stake, which will help the budding designers jumpstart their fashion design careers.
