Preview Editors Picks: Our Fashion Favorites From The Star Magic Ball

Preview Editors Picks: Our Fashion Favorites From The Star Magic Ball No prom dresses here.

From excessive embellishments to frou-frou full skirts, the #StarMagicBall2015 flooded our feeds like it was February awards season all over again. But let’s talk fashion not pageantry (did you see those debut gowns?). What’s “bongga” isn’t necessarily better, and the last time we checked the runways, discreet and well-edited always make a stronger statement.

Here are our favorite red carpet looks:

Tootsy Angara in Rajo Laurel

Her white Rajo Laurel gown was shoulder-bearing, textured, cutout, and unforgivably sleek. Paired with Gucci heels and a slicked-back 'do, the ensemble was unconventional and so “now.” The wife of Senator Sonny Angara and Rajo Laurel are a match made in red carpet heaven—from the SONA to the Star Magic Ball, we find ourselves looking forward to what the duo has come up with.

Bea Alonzo in Alexander McQueen

With Bea, let’s talk about tailoring. That McQueen fit her like a glove—and we mean a breathable glove. She’s lost weight and looks great, but didn’t flaunt it obnoxiously. Instead, her silhouette did all the talking. Even with a center slit, she balanced the skin-bearing act with platform-free ankle straps. Sleek, pared-down accessories—current-season velvet Rochas steppers and a sleek Neil Felipp clutch—were a luxe, discreet finishing touch.

Kim Jones in Jun Escario

Styling is Kim Jones’ ace. The only girl who opted to wear a choker (which she DIY-ed using Echo’s spare bowtie) and a bold green Aranaz clutch, with her tight and tiered bell-sleeved Jun Escario, made all the right choices and showed a bit of runway flair IRL.

Maricar Reyes in Vania Romoff

Restraint best describes this look, and that’s a compliment. In a sea of rhinestone excess, Maricar’s Vania Romoff makes up for it with a dramatic back, an interesting neckline, and the simple choice of a tad bit too traditional emerald earrings. Brava.

Iza Calzado in Jun Escario

She gave us everything we love about Kim K but would dare not admit. Curves are difficult to dress, but Iza knows her body. She showed enough décolletage and leg to keep it sleek and sexy. And did we mention her skin? Sun-kissed olive perfection.

Kelsey Merritt in Vania Romoff

You have to hand it to the model of the moment for going against the dress code (it specified nude, taupe and beige) on her first Star Magic outing. If we were going to go rogue on this relatively easy theme, Kelsey’s low ear-tucked ponytail, absence of accessories, and a mermaid-style gown by Vania Romoff, tailored to show off her svelte frame, all amounted to a look that need no bejeweled distractions.
