White Space, Makati City
Every year, Manila's fashionistas await Preview's Best-Dressed Ball and last Friday's party certainly did not disappoint. The dress code: Barbie.
It seemed all the gals were eager to get “All Dolled Up.” Some came as their favorite Barbies. Editor-in-Chief Pauline Juan and Mariel Rodriguez both channeled Dream Date Barbie, with the former in a Mich Dulce creation and the latter clad in a gown by Avel Bacudio. Anne Curtis, wearing Eric delos Santos, and Associate Fashion Editor Daryl Chang, in Cary Santiago, both wore renditions of Ballerina Barbie. Others, like Fashion Editor Liz Uy, wearing Joey Samson, and designer Angela Alarcon, in her own design, took the other route and suited up as Ken.
It wasn't just the women who got dolled up that night. Dapper gents Ken-ed up in colored suits—fashion show director Robby Carmona and eventologist Tim Yap both wore Barbie pink; L'Oreal makeup artist Jigs Mayuga rocked a powder blue vest and trouser suit by young designer Gerswin Qua; while interior designer Nix Alañon looked sunny in yellow floral short suit by Rajo Laurel. These excluding the four Ken dolls (read: very good looking male models) present to escort the women down the entrance ramp.
For the first time ever, the event was broadcast live (yes, in real time) on Style Bible with the help of PLDT SME Nation's trusty broadband, live streaming care of Bitstop Network Services, and the production of the new online Pinoy video channel Flippish.com. If you weren't able to catch it that night, the whole show will be ready for viewing on Style Bible this week.
The evening's co-presentors gave prizes to the women who came in their Barbie best. Red Ribbon gave away two Barbie trophies, with beautiful fondant ball skirts, to Amina Aranaz-Alunan who won the Pretty in Pink award, and Bianca Gonzales, the Hot in Pink winner. Fendi Eyewear award the evening's Best Dressed, Isabelle Daza, with a pair of their luxe sunnies.
More giveaways were given by Revlon and Cole Haan, while the live Barbies of Plains & Prints gave the guests a bit of eye candy.
The highlight of the evening, apart from the buzz of the party, was the revelation of the women on Preview's 2009 Best-Dressed List. Joey Mead, looking every bit like a living doll, hosted the program and together with Pauline, called the seven ladies present up on stage. Cover girl Maricel Soriano graced the event and was joined on stage by Divine Lee, Pam Quiñones, Paula Taylor, Bea Soriano, Melissa Dizon, and Alex Suarez. Unfortunately, Kai Lim, Georcelle Dapat, Martine Cajucom were unable to come.
The party didn't end after the program. It seemed that MIHCA never ran out of yummy nibbles and drinks, while Liquid Lounge and The Bar kept serving a slew of cocktails. Spin City DJs Candice Ang and Emerson Angeles paid homage to the King of Pop who passed away that day, playing one Michael Jackson hit after another, throwing in some Lady Gaga and other hip tracks for fun too.
Every year the party gets better and without a doubt, every guest is already thinking towards the ball of 2010.
