Spoiler alert: We had loads of fun!

The Preview Ball is one of the biggest fashion events of the year. At the ball, we celebrate our Best Dressed listers and it is only fitting that we come in our most stylish selves. Every year, we make sure to prepare our outfits months before the event. This means collaborating with our favorite local designers to help us achieve the look we have in mind. However, for this year's party, we decided to mix it up a bit and completed our looks with department store finds. I mean, we're all for fashion but we're also practical—we love a good piece we can rewear countless of times! See how it all turned out below.

Can you describe your look for the Preview Best Dressed Ball?

"I'm wearing a vintage navy pinstriped blazer dress with gold gilded buttons down the front, pearl accessories, and cherry-red faux skin stiletto sandals."

What The SM Store piece/s did you wear for the event?

"The red stilettos! Introducing my new favorite go-to evening shoes. These go with pretty much anything."

How did you decide to incorporate the department store piece you wore?

"I was aiming for this sort of retro, '40s-flavored look, and I think the sandals pair perfectly with the scarlet eyeshadow I wanted for my makeup! The teal marbled clutch also provided a polished touch to the outfit."

What did you learn from the experience?

"I can last an entire evening partying in very high heels."

How would you re-wear the SM pieces?

"Again, these shoes go with nearly everything in my closet, and I'm hardly ever in flats or sneakers so there's an actual possibility that I'll be wearing these 24/7. At work, I'd do it with a cool printed button-down and black trousers, then on the weekend, maybe with an oversized blazer, white tee, and jeans."

Can you describe your look for the Preview Best Dressed Ball?

"My black tulle dress is from local designer Ha.Mu, and because of the sheer detail I wore black trousers underneath. For shoes, I went with a pair of black mules with gold heels."

What The SM Store pieces did you wear for the event?

"The heels I was wearing are from SM Parisian and my black cropped trousers are from SM Woman."

How did you decide to incorporate the department store pieces you wore?

"Since my dress is quite sheer, I thought wearing trousers underneath would be a nice twist instead of simply covering up with shorts or a slip dress. As for the shoes, not only are they the perfect color, the finish and the silhouette add a nice contrast to the oversized fit and ruffles on my dress."

What did you learn from the experience?

"Great finds are everywhere—you can pair any piece you have with absolutely anything, no matter where you get them from. It all comes down to how well the pieces go together."

How would you re-wear the SM pieces?

"The black trousers are a bit of a dead giveaway. At work, I can pair them with the plethora of button-downs in my closet, tucking the hem for a cinched waist. It'll be the perfect piece to dress down a statement top as well for parties. The shoes will serve the opposite purpose—to instantly make casual outfits, like a T-shirt and jeans combo, a little more dressy."

Can you describe your look for the Preview Best Dressed Ball?

"I'm wearing a custom emerald green suit. I'm really excited because back when I was still in school I thought dresses were the only way to go if I had to attend events. So this is me experimenting and really figuring out what I like and what I'm comfortable in."

What The SM Store piece did you wear for the event?

"With a few tips I decided to go monochrome and go green all the way, so I got a pair of green heels from SM Parisian."

How did you decide to incorporate the department store pieces you wore?

"The shoes' shade is a bit darker than my suit, which I like because it gives more depth to my outfit. I also got a pink handbag for a pop of color and to complement all the green going around."

What did you learn from the experience?

"You can dress up your outfit with even the simplest of pieces."

How would you re-wear the SM pieces?

"I'm a big fan of color and putting them together. I'd probably use my shoulder bag for work events and pair it with my peach blazer. It could also go with my pink trousers paired with a simple white top for more casual days/nights out. For the shoes, I'm not really the kind of girl to wear heels on a casual weekend, but I will definitely wear them out. I'd like to try them with a pair of leggings, especially since I have one with green stripes on the side that's almost exactly the exact same color of my SM heels."

Can you describe your look for the Preview Best Dressed Ball?

"I wanted to go for this disco alien/nymph-like look that’s kind of surreal since I think the future of fashion will be quite out-there and a little weird. I opted for this puffy and deconstructed sheer dress from Ha.Mu paired with loud rhinestone earrings, lace socks and white heeled mules."

What The SM Store pieces did you wear for the event?

"I really wanted over-the-top sparkles so I went with these outrageous earrings. But because it’s a working night for me I decided to go with low-heeled mules for the right mix of comfort and style."

How did you decide to incorporate the department store pieces you wore?

"I’ve actually been a fan of SM Parisian shoes and I was really decided on wearing a pair that would compliment my entire look without killing my feet. Based on SM’s new campaign with Margaret Zhang, I also knew that they had rhinestone-heavy accessories."

What did you learn from the experience?

"That you can nail a fashion statement with affordable RTW pieces! Fashion should be fun, and you never really know what you can find from your local department store!"

How would you re-wear the SM pieces?

"These mules are super comfy, so I could practically wear them every day. The pair will also look good with a mid-length grandma dress, ankle-grazing denims, even a vintage-looking mini skirt! As for the earrings, they're the perfect accessory to dress up a T-shirt and trousers look because a play on contrasts is definitely stylish."

Can you describe your look for the Preview Best Dressed Ball?

"I'm wearing a top created by a young designer. College of St. Benilde graduate Janine Valdes made this black and white piece that balances form, fluidity, and structure in one garment. I chose something made by a young designer because I have high hopes that the up and coming designers are the future of fashion."

What The SM Store pieces did you wear for the event?

"I wore a pearl-embellished denim mini skirt from SM Woman and a pair of silver heels from SM Parisian. I accessorized with silver statement earrings and a white buckled mini crossbody bag, both from SM Accessories."

How did you decide to incorporate the department store pieces you wore?

"I considered my comfort above all. I knew I'd be working that night so I opted to wear low-heeled shoes. I also made sure to choose a crossbody bag so I could go hands-free the entire night. I went for a tiny bag that can hold my essentials sans the added weight and bulk. Meanwhile, I dressed down my top with a denim mini skirt that came in a dark wash."

What did you learn from the experience?

"Dressing up is not about who or what you're wearing; the more important thing is how you put everything together! I had a blast scouring the SM Department Store for fab finds I can easily wear regardless of where I'm going."

How would you re-wear the SM pieces?

"The possibilities are endless. The denim skirt alone can be worn a number of ways but perhaps I'd spruce it up again by wearing a dressier top—maybe with a pussy bow blouse to match its pearl details. For the silver heels, I'd totally wear them again on a night out with a slinky slip dress. They're super comfortable to dance and walk around in."
