When you're drawing blanks on how to compose an outfit, the usual regimen is to scroll through Pinterest for inspo. Fashionistas of the TikTok generation have taken that idea a whole step further and coined it as Pinterestcore. The formula, as jarring as it may seem at first, is actually quite simple. If it looks "wrong," you're probably doing it right.
What is Pinterestcore?
Pinterestcore pertains to intentionally creating a hodgepodge with your clothes. The piece that's out-of-place, usually the bottoms, gets placed between two pieces that outright coincide with each other more. Some have called it the "New York" look, referencing how most individuals in the Big Apple have a tendency to dress this way.
The trend is an intersection of many sartorial hacks. It borrows the concept of the sandwich method, but instead of colors, utilizes the "vibes" or genres of the clothes. The "wrong shoe theory" also comes into play. Think teaming together an athletic shirt and sneakers with a denim skirt or dress pants, for example.
But don't just take it from us. Stylistic choices at the recent 2024 runways seem to have reflected cues from this trend, with names like Dsquared2 and Givenchy serving up ensembles that still undeniably look chic. Accessorizing "to the moon" is a crucial step to achieving the look, it seems.

If anything, Pinterestcore proves that there are certainly no rules when it comes to dressing up. As it turns out, mixing and mismatching your pieces can actually result to some of the most unique 'fits! For more inspo on how to ace the look, check out our local style stars' OOTDs below.
