It was all the way back in 1969 when an 18-year-old Gloria Diaz became the first Filipina to win Miss Universe. Fast forward to today, and the country can proudly boast of three more titleholders, by the names of Margie Moran, Catriona Gray, and Pia Wurtzbach.
The latter is giving back to her roots by hosting the latest edition of Miss Universe Philippines. Photographer BJ Pascual revealed that she'll have four outfits for the evening, and each of them will pay tribute to all of our crowned queens. Her first one, in homage to the woman who opened the door for all Filipinas, was nothing short of breathtaking.
Pia was clad in a bejeweled, slit gown featuring a singular terno sleeve, and a trail of feather appliques. Designed by famed couturier Mark Bumgarner and styled by Adrianne Concepcion, the beauty queen-actress' frock is reminiscent of the white ensemble Gloria wore when she won her title.
Gloria's winning answer back then was about what she would do if the first man on the moon were to ever visit Manila. In line with this, Pia sees this look as a way to empower women to shoot for the moon as well. "Today, this look is a message for every woman to be unafraid to reach for the moon and say yes to her dreams & new adventures," she wrote on social media.
Makeup artist Mickey See made sure to highlight Pia's signature smize with smoky eyeshadow and a nude lip. Her tresses, care of Renz Pangilinan, were then tied up in a frizzy bun, which only added to the look's ethereal aura. She looked every bit like a goddess with a dove perched on her fingers!
You look stunning, Pia!
