The coronation of the new Miss Universe South Africa last October 17 was truly a star-studded event. It had not one but four Miss Universes in attendance, two of which are our very own!
Pia Wurtzbach, who was the titleholder in 2015, served as a judge for the pageant, while Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray graced the stage as the event's host. It was definitely a grand reunion between the two queens, which became even more monumental because of a subtle twinning moment! Scroll ahead to see what we mean!
For the post-pageant event, Pia wore a custom emerald green off-shoulder gown by Filipino designer Mark Bumgarner. It features a corseted top and a high slit, and according to the designer, the garment was inspired by old Hollywood classic glamour. To finish off her look, Pia donned a silver necklace and brooch from DiaGold. Needless to say, she looked radiant on the red carpet!
Our 2018 queen Catriona shined onstage in a custom creation by South African fashion house Biji La Maison. She first wore a piece from the brand in 2019, when she was a judge for the pageant!
The gown's details are even more stunning up close. Instead of visible straps, it features an embellished fern-like shape that extended from Catriona's waist towards the neck area. The open back only showed off this detail more, not to mention it looked stunning in pictures!
As if we needed more proof that green was the color of the night, Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi also wore the hue as Catriona's co-host!
Though we might not have a photo of our Filipina queens' twinning moment, we do have this powerful snap of five queens together. Posed beside Catriona is reigning Miss Universe Andrea Meza, while front and center is the newly-crowned Miss South Africa, Lalela Mswane. Of course, there's Zozibini in black next to Queen P!
