Rejoice to the fashion gods! Today, we woke up to the news Phobe Philo’s, return to the fashion world. The former Celine Creative Director is rumored to be launching her own line with an "eco slant and essentials focus," WWD reports. In fact, Phoebe is reported to have been in the process of interviewing designers for her brand. This is also said to be the reason why she didn’t enter a new house after her Celine stint.
In her 10 years at the French fashion house, she had transformed Celine into a household name with a cult following. She was applauded for being one of the only designers who actually “gets women.” She catered to the ladies who were not inclined to wearing tight minidresses—a revolutionary concept post-aughts. She took minimalism and made it her own with refined cuts, oversized shapes, and a tonal color palette. Oh, and she also launched signature it bag after it bag along the way—no big deal!
Let’s bring ourselves back to that fateful day of 2018, Celine Pre-Fall 2017, when Phoebe’s departure from the house was announced. It's safe to say that the fashion community grieved. We watched as every Phoebe-era Instagram post was deleted off of the @celine account. And on our road to acceptance, we clicked follow to @oldceline, an account dedicated to her past work with the brand.
Regardless of what her actual next move is, Phoebe will always be celebrated for revolutionizing what it means to dress like a modern woman. She taught us that there's beauty in simplicity, and ultimate chicness in comfort. Indeed, what she created was far beyond clothing, instead, it felt like a heartfelt love letter to her fellow women.
