European couture supposedly inspired one, and bohemian living another. The third attempted to reinvigorate our beloved piña fabric with metallic finishes.

What could have been a promising 3-designer Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2010 sequence last May 29, 2010 quietly underwhelmed. Too bad the designers didn't manage to maximize the potential of their respective inspirations. If they had, the audience would've been in for a very wonderful show.

Not all was lost, however. Alex Pigao showcased some elegant dressmaking capabilities with some of his more toned down garments, such as the diaphanous, cream-colored long dress that featured asymmetrical shoulders with raw-edged fabric embellishments.

Michelle Lim showed a black long gown center-paneled with pale pink embroidery; a stiffly structured metallic short party dress with a black piña shawl perfect for the ostentation of the yuletide season; and a trompe-l'œil of a brocade gown that simultaneously slims the bodice and widens the hips (too bad for those not-so-invisible shoulder straps, though!).

As for Dimple Lim… Some of her pieces are desirable enough and display some form manipulation, but as for her beatnik inspiration, let's just say it wandered off far, far away from the drawing table, as vagabonds are wont to do.
