In the midst of Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2010's menswear tedium, Bang Pineda's Damaged: The Life & Style of an Assassin stalked the catwalk and made the audience revel in what felt like a runway version of a high-octane action flick.

The collection bristled with testosterone-filled energy, though not inspired by the meaty, mindless type. Bang's men were fine, sleek pieces of male specimen outfitted in refined, detailed looks that would've put to shame the boring getups of the likes of reel rogues Jason Bourne and plain black suited Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield. (Although maybe their tepid outfit choices are inspired by the assassin credo to remain low-key.)

We loved the well-tailored suits, the little gun accents on the suits' lapels, the cutout “Bang Bang” quasi-bags, as well as the graphic holster and gun prints on the button-down shirts.

Meanwhile, Tina Daniac pulled out all dramatic stops for her PFW Holiday 2010 collection, Homage to Sabel. Sabel, for those not in the know, is one of National Artist BenCab's muses, a woman he once saw scavenging on the streets and who has since inspired him to depict the realm of emotions through both structured and amorphous abstraction.

As a result, the first half of Tina's collection consisted of dark, tightly tailored pieces that contained some displaced and indulgent glamour through the use of glinting embellishment. The second half, on the other hand, was a veritable feast to those sufficiently acquainted with BenCab's Sabel pieces, for Tina decided to bring to life the master's painted masterpieces through voluminous tapestries that promptly embodied all the high drama represented by Sabel.

By the way, BenCab himself was present in the show, so it must've been such an intense pleasure for Tina not just to have the privilege of bringing to life the National Artist's dear muse, but also to have the great maestro come down from his beautiful home in Benguet to watch her show.
