Phfw Ss 2014 Review: Ready-to-wear Seven designers sent creations that range from laid-back to glam down the runway ready for the picking.

This year's Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 Ready-to-Wear collections seem to cater to the different facets of the modern woman: powerful in her field, knows how to have fun, appreciates relaxed and quiet moments, a jetsetter, and attractive in all ways. Alodia, Arnold, Jian, JohnRichieYako, and ESAC created clothes that range from laid-back to glam all ripe for the picking. Read on to know what the designers have to say about their respective collections.

“My collection for Spring/Summer 2014, Summer Snow in the Winter Sun, is all about being laid-back, subtly sexy, and comfortable and confident with oneself. Following this vibe, I present a party of muted and bold colors in shades of pink, green, ash white, and glittery black using suede, cotton jersey, toile, and lace to come up with comfortable but sexy high-waist skirts, jumpsuits, and feminine dresses.”

“Highly influenced by the exquisite Mediterranean and the landscape, I made use of a palette of white, black, and Mediterranean blue this season. Softly tailored yet provocatively feminine, I utilized silk chiffon, satin, jersey, and crepe de chine to make light and loose silhouettes that still contour the female figure. My Spring/Summer 2014 offering fuses the old and new influences of the Mediterranean to create a very modern and still relevant collection.”

“Like the magnificent peacocks, I envision my wearers to exhibit a refined sense of style and identity when wearing my pieces. Mimicking their attractive, colorful feathers, I used twill, wool, cotton silk, satin, and tulle in warm and romantic colors of blue, red, purple, and yellow. With these I created tailored separates including suits, trench coats, vests, dress shirts, and slim pants for both men and women, and skirts of various lengths, corsets, and ball gowns for women, each in clean and streamlined, empowering silhouettes.”

John's latest collection is defined by his rendition of the tribal print, which lends visual intrigue to his creations. The gradation of colors and use of accents also create a whole new dimension for the simple silhouettes.

“Because I love how white represents purity and cleanliness, I came up with an all-white collection this season called Bleached. Comprised of paneled dresses, tailored jackets, tapered trousers, and structured vests, my Spring/Summer 2014 repertoire offers all the essentials that a woman with an active lifestyle needs, allowing her to keep looking elegant and well put-together.”

“Inspired by the American sitcom, The Flying Nun, my upcoming collection is my personal expression of gratitude for the years I’ve had so far, as I am also celebrating my 5th mark in the industry this year. In an attempt to portray the unique clerical vibe based on the characters of the show, I crafted floor-length dresses, double-slit skirts, flowing trousers, asymmetrical cut blouses, all in shades of white, ecru, and gray.”

Floral prints and stripes are what a summer wardrobe is made of and ESAC's collection has a number of pieces that can fill up your closet. Shift dresses in vivid colors are either accented with a floral belt or a floral printed back. Graphic black and white in stripes, checks, and blooms also plays a big part in this collection.
