Phfw Holiday 2013 Day 5 Review: Albert Andrada Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2013 closes with a modern recreation of medieval fashion.

As a fitting end to this season’s Philippine Fashion Week, its 22nd season, Dubai-bred Filipino designer Albert Andrada sent modern-day empresses down the runway decked out in visually intriguing garments. BYZANTINE BEAUTY. Charo Ronquillo opened the show in a silky tunic paired with trousers and platform shoes, both in gold, while the marquee stage design provided a spectacular background with its play of lights.

Albert recreates the grandeur of the Byzantine Empire however, smartly pared down to suit modern clothing. Dresses festooned with stones and crystals, structured shifts in rich purple (the color reserved for royalty), tunic and floor-sweeping gowns (column, empire-cut, serpentina, you name it!) accentuated with gold embroidery and embellishments, frothy feathers, and flirty frills all offered a hint of Old-World charm.

HER ROYAL HIGHNESS. A crown, which topped off a number of other looks, worked as a finishing touch to Chat Almarvez’s luxe mullet ensemble that drove the point home.

Majestic atmosphere notwithstanding, Albert flung forward a handful of tailored pieces to ground the collection and make it more relevant to prevailing tastes.

MEDIEVAL MEETS MODERN. Tailored jackets paired with full chiffon skirts created a fresh

and modern look.

Albert’s collection was a picturesque one and, even minus the pageantry, was a powerful ending to one of this year's biggest fashion events.
