Personal Stylist: The Great Gatsby

Personal Stylist: The Great Gatsby We come up with four outfits inspired by Baz Luhrmann's latest movie.

We can’t hide our excitement for the latest movie adaptation of the literary classic The Great Gatsby. The 1920s was all about jazz, parties, and jewelry and it’s exactly what got us inspired to flaunt some vintage fashion. If you still don’t have Gatsby fever then prepare to get hit because it’s not leaving anytime soon; in fact it's still gaining momentum as Twenties-themed weddings are on a roll (of course Kate Moss did this already back in 2011). We totally understand the buzz because the period was vintage at its finest—Flappers, pearls, diamonds, fringe, feathers, silk, and fascinators; it was Coco Chanel’s era after all. With the film on the silver screens this week, we have the perfect excuse to channel the glitz and glamour  (with a capital G!) of the roaring Twenties.

Whether you’re naughty or nice, read on to incorporate a little Daisy Buchanan or a Jordan Baker into your daily wardrobe.

DAY LOOK

Daisy captured the heart of Jay Gatsby through her sweet and innocent charm. For the day choose a midiskirt in a nice pastel hue and pair it with wedge heels and a cardigan (à la Ralph Lauren’s S/S 2012 collection). You have a choice to top it off with a hat for a more ‘20s vibe.>

EVENING LOOK>

Go all-out glam in a Flapper dress with pearls to match. You can add either the fringe bag or a cuff to the equation, but be sure to choose just one so you don't end up over- accessorizing.>

JORDAN BAKER:>

DAY LOOK>

The cynical but direct Jordan Baker represents the strong woman. For day, opt for wide-leg pants and a sheer button-down (go for black- and-white so you’re still on trend). You can then tie a scarf on your head if you feel like going full-on ‘20s.>

   JORDAN BAKER:

NIGHT LOOK>

You can’t go wrong with a fab fringe dress. The movement makes it fun and the hint of color makes it modern. Pair it with T-strap heels (a classic ‘20s staple) and a cute headband to complete the ensemble. >
