WHAT IS YOUR COLLECTION ABOUT? ANYTHING SPECIFIC IT WAS INPIRED BY?

Whenever I think of a collection, I go out and take a walk and usually get inspired by what I see. This collection has its roots on a Mother Mary statue in my home's backyard—I was amazed by how it seems to move despite its immobile state.

WHAT WERE THE TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS THAT YOU USED?

I decided to use leather for my collection. It's such a tough fabric that at first glance wouldn't be best for a movement-themed collection, but I made sure to cut and play with it in such a way that it will look soft and that the fabric will curve. Also, leather is just fitting for the imminent Fall/Winter season!

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU LEARNED THE THEME IS "THE ART OF MOVEMENT?" HOW DOES "ART OF MOVEMENT" TRANSLATE TO YOUR COLLECTION?

I got nervous! My initial instinct was to inject flowy elements, but after a much needed calming down by my mom, I thought it through and got inspired by statues. Statues may be stiff structures, but they're sculpted with pleats, lines and curves that make them look alive, like they're moving. I think that's what astounds everyone about statues.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE PIECE IN THE COLLECTION?

Definitely my boxy sweater and skirt with box pleats, simply because I see myself wearing it! It's also the first look I made for my collection.

PEFTA is fast approaching. How have your preparations been going, so far?

I am just so excited! My mom would often remind me that it's getting nearer and nearer, and I am looking forward to it because it's a dream come true for me.

WHAT SHOULD THE EXHIBIT GOERS EXPECT OF YOUR COLLECTION?

I want them to see the inspiration behind my collection. I hope it comes across through the clothes. From a recent European trip, I noticed that locals wear boxy silhouettes all the time and that they're comfortable wearing pieces that move away from the body. That's another thing I want to impart through my pieces. With my collection, I hope that Filipinos can be inspired to wear clothes like these, and still know they can look sexy and fashionable at the same time!
