September is the January of fashion (when magazines release the thickest issues) but that's not the only reason why this month is special to us. September is the culminating month of the Preview Emerging Fashion Talent Awards and we're very excited to present this year's batch. Starting today, we'll be featuring the winners so that you could get to know them better. First up is accessories designer Adante Leyesa.

WHAT IS YOUR COLLECTION ABOUT? ANYTHING SPECIFIC IT WAS INPIRED BY?

I was much into my Biology class in High School, so this collection relived that interest. The collection is an interpretation of flora and fauna found in nature, and how these creatures move about in their natural habitat.

WHAT WERE THE TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS THAT YOU USED?

I actually love doing what most designers are wont to avoid—heavy, intricate beading! I'm an advocate for local materials, so I use beads, bamboo, and crystals found in the country—common materials found all over, pieced together to look its most luxurious.

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU LEARNED THE THEME IS "THE ART OF MOVEMENT?" HOW DOES "ART OF MOVEMENT" TRANSLATE TO YOUR COLLECTION?

Ultimately, my collection aims to mimic how natural creatures move on earth. For example, one of the collection's pieces is inspired by vines crawling around a trellis—that just depicts how while we may not notice it, nature lives and moves with us.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE PIECE IN THE COLLECTION?

They're all equally special to me, but I'm amazed at the clutch bag I'm making, made of real bird feathers. It's something new for me, and I'm surprised that I was able to turn such delicate material into a beautiful clutch.

PEFTA IS FAST-APPROACHING. HOW HAVE YOUR PREPARATIONS BEEN GOING, SO FAR?

It's the home stretch for me, just some finishing touches on certain pieces.

WHAT SHOULD THE EXHIBIT GOERS EXPECT OF YOUR COLLECTION?

I'm happy to say that these are the most luxurious pieces I've created so far, so they can expect heavily textured and beaded pieces. PEFTA is definitely the most challenging exhibit I've done, and one of the most exciting and important for me. I've done a few exhibits before, but PEFTA is really something I'm looking forward to.

Watch out for the features of the other PEFTA winners in the following days.
