Patrice Ramos-diaz Does Ready-to-wear The designer moves on to the next phase of her career: doing RTW lounge and active wear for a health-conscious lifestyle.

We found out late last year that Patrice Ramos-Diaz is shifting to a more sporty aesthetic with her Summer 2012 collection for Fashion Watch. During the interview for the show, she revealed to us that she has "slowed down with work" and is ready to transition into the ready-to-wear business, with the "new consciousness for getting fit" informing her latest work.

The designer herself is conscious about fitness, and so knows firsthand the rigors of balancing a health-conscious lifestyle with both family and work, and, naturally, also knows exactly what women like her need, clothing-wise. Thus, a collection cut from Dri-Fit and Lycra in practical but stylish silhouettes was born. This was a prelude to her first RTW collection, which debuted last February 9, 2012, in the largest yoga studio in the country, Urban Ashram (where Patrice practices yoga).

"Health and staying active has become so much a part of today's lifestyle and I wanted to design clothes that are as appropriate for the yoga mat and gym as they would be for everyday use," she says. "More and more people want to feel comfortable in the clothes they were regularly, but at the same time want their outfits to show off all the hard work they put into their bodies."

Patrice's new line of lounge and active wear is an extension of her Summer 2012 Fashion Watch collection, albeit a much sportier one, in keeping with the athleticism of her current inspiration. "Yoga is almost like art in both stillness and motion. My inspiration was to create a line that would complement it flawlessly by allow[ing] for unrestricted movement, all the while looking stunning," she explains. And indeed, the line is composed of mix-and-match pieces that accommodate both style and function: asymmetric tops that show off a graceful shoulder, but are roomy enough to move around in; wrap-around cotton knit sweaters to stave off the chill during those evening runs; ikat short shorts to stretch in and to best show off toned calves.

Patrice defines the visual tone of the collection as "tribal-tech," fusing tradition and innovation by using "techno-moisture wicking fabric such as Dri-Fit" together with ikat-print stretch fabric and cotton knit. A contrast can also be found in the collection's color story, which mixes neutrals with neon orange, fuschia, and green. "The play on this irony or contrasting elements helps express what I feel yoga is about. It is a journey of self-discovery—a personal and spiritual breakthrough where you find a new appreciation for the most basic things such as silence and breathing and the balance between effort and ease in our daily lives."
