Have you been living in fresh dresses during the quarantine like most celebrities? Or are you one of those people who prefer baring it all in comfy lounge bras? Well, whatever the case, we’re sure you have been putting the same stuff on rotation and are in dire need of a little sartorial refresh.
One piece you can use over and over again without looking boring is the spaghetti dress, and it’s perfect for those love frocks and hubadera pieces. What’s so great about it is that you can style it into different outfits, as YouTube vlogger Ashley, a.k.a. Best Dressed shows us in one of her videos. With just some layering tricks and key accessories, you can transform that basic little dress into an IG-worthy OOTD—the perfect solution especially if you’ve been thrifty lately.
Learn from the ways Ashley created 10 different outfits using one dress:
1. Put on pointy-toed flats and jewelry.
If you’re in a hurry or you just got a quick errand to run, look fresh yet put-together by pairing your dress with pointy-toed flats. These shoes are perfect for everyday outfits because they’re comfy and posh at the same time. They’ll make any dress look less casual, too.

2. Layer a white tee and pair with white sneakers.
Love a good ‘90s vibe? Embrace the whole camisole + shirt trend of the decade with your spaghetti strap dress. If your dress is printed, choose a shirt that matches one of the print’s colors. If your dress is a solid color, select a shirt in a contrasting hue for balance (e.g. black dress + white shirt). White sneakers would do, but if you’re feeling more fashown, throw in a pair of booties.
3. Layer a puff sleeve blouse and add flair with a hair accessory.
What’s cool about a little dress is that you can wear it as a skirt, so why not pair it with something trendy like a puff sleeve blouse or anything with pronounced shoulders? The bold shape balances the tight-fitting ‘skirt.’ And yup, voluminous sleeves are still a big thing this Fall/Winter, and the bigger your sleeves are, the better. This is a fabulous outfit you can wear to an intimate gathering!
4. Wear it with trousers for a smart casual look.
If you can wear your little dress as a skirt, you can also wear it as a top! That’s the beauty of a bodycon frock. To prevent it from bunching up inside your pants, neatly fold the ends to shorten the hem. It’s best to wear this with thick trousers, like those made of polyester and cotton, to ensure that your dress tucks in smoothly.
5. Wear it with a tennis skirt for a cute, IG-ready outfit.
If you’re up for something satisfyingly basic, go for a mini skirt that’ll give major Brandy Melville vibes. If you want to tone down on the basic IG girl aesthetic though (we feel like you will), switch out the white sneakers for combat boots or chelsea boots instead—boots are great now that the Fall/Winter is in full swing.
6. Throw on an oversized jacket and chunky sandals.
Now that the weather’s starting to get a little chilly, you might want to consider throwing on a jacket when you head outside, be it a protective one or something thick to fight the cold. Whichever you prefer, it’s great to opt for something a little oversized to contrast the slinky dress.
7. Put on a cropped sweater for a covered-up look that’s still sexy.
If baggy pullovers are your thing, that might not work with an itty bitty dress like this, but you can still cop your style by going for cropped sweaters instead. The hemline will elongate your figure, plus it looks so comfy to move around in! Great for trips to the mall during the weekend.
8. Try tonal dressing.
If the whole dress-and-tee outfit combo is too predictable for you, take it to the next level by going for tonal dressing. Ashley layered a shirt in the same brown color as her gingham dress, so you could do the same if yours is printed, too. If your dress is solid-colored though, try going for a layer that’s a shade lighter or darker.
9. You can’t go wrong with a denim jacket.
I don’t know about you but I’m a sucker for oversized denim jackets. I think it’s the retro vibe it evokes; plus the slightly ovoid shape is decidedly “cool girl.” That said, you won’t have to think twice about throwing on your own baggy denim jacket—just mix it up by going for retro-inspired footwear like Gucci-esque platform sandals.
10. Look cute in a colorful cardigan.
With Y2K still a hot, Instagram trend, it won’t hurt to complete your little dress with a colorful cardigan—especially if it’s pastel! Feel free to go all out by wearing accessories like barrettes, scrunchies, and baguette bags that will have you saying “fetch” in no time.
