Oprah Winfrey's gift-giving skills are no joke. Her yearly list of favorite things was a hit on her old talk show, and the most memorable episode for us is still the one where she gave away 276 cars to her studio audience in 2004. But after going off-air, Oprah's Favorite Things list became an exclusive on Oprah Magazine. And for this year's long list of gift ideas, the media queen included the Tropical Edge Clutch from the local brand Beatriz.
Designed by Carissa Cruz-Evangelista, this bag was spotted by Oprah Magazine's creative director Andrew Glassman and style editor Rae Anne Herman in an exhibition in New York called NY Now. It was selected by Oprah herself after a rigid selection process. "We were told by the agent representing us in New York that when Oprah believes in a product, she really sells it," shares Carissa. "So we took a chance—because it's Oprah!"
These Beatriz clutches are handmade, and can take about one week or more to make, since it's all handcorded with a special weaving technique that glues the colored cotton thread together. Because of this, Carissa and her team had to do a lot of preparing for their big reveal on Oprah's list. "I'm nervous about [the deliveries because] the turnaround time was very fast. We'll just see where this goes. I'm just very honored that Oprah even considered and chose us," the designer tells us.
If you're interested in having one of these coveted clutches, Amazon actually has a 20% Oprah discount that you can avail! But if you want to see Beatriz's products in the flesh, you can find some in Firma (Greenbelt 3), Cura V (Power Plant Mall), and House of Laurel.
