Through the years, numerous labels and trends have dictated changes in fashion protocol. Rules have been bent, lines between genders have been blurred, and one of the most interesting changes would have to be the leniency in office appropriate dressing.
It’s no longer necessary for a #GirlBoss to strut into the workplace in feminine pantsuits, or even sky-high stilettos—THANK GOD! Culottes and sweater combos are becoming, silk blouses and slip on mules are welcome, and nouveau sundresses with office-appropriate footwear have been embraced.
Lara Martirez, the creative mind behind online clothing store, BONITA the Label, could easily hop from her office to her holidays in her favorite BONITA pieces. She is the complete embodiment of the brand’s work-to-weekend ready, forever-summer aesthetic. And trust us when we say that each piece in their arsenal of off-shoulder blouses and ruffled culottes could turn heads anywhere—yes, even in the boardroom or on a yacht!
We talk to this Bonita girl on how she translates her personal style, and lifestyle musings to pieces she makes readily available online—via their website, of course.
Celebrate an accomplishment—like opening a bottle of wine—in the Charlie top (P980) and Mimosa skirt (P1300).
Hey, Lara! How would you describe Bonita the Label in three words?
Effortless, fresh, and versatile!
And who’s the ideal BONITA girl for you?
Me! (laughs) I just mean that the brand is a reflection of my personality but to answer your question, the ideal BONITA girl is Alicia Vikander. I love everything about her – her acting, personality and style.
How is she like?
She’s definitely a #GirlBoss. She has chic effortless style, but she also knows how to let loose and have fun.
Vacay like a boss in the Bianca top (P950).
And when she’s having fun, where would your girl wear BONITA?
She’d wear them while grabbing coffee or running errands, but she’ll also pull them off on a yacht sailing away with her girls or dancing in Ibiza with a hot European boy with abs.
And what are your favorite pieces from the label?
Definitely, the Bianca top because it has such a flattering silhouette for all body types and is made of linen, so it’s light and breezy—perfect for the tropical climate.
The Bianca top (P 950.00)
Another would be the Villa culottes because they're comfy and can be dressed down or up just by wearing heels and the right accessories.
The Ellie top (P1080) and Villa culottes (P1600) is great for midweek lunch dates.
What made you start your own label?
Fashion was always something that I loved. At the same time, I wanted to have my own business that was based on something I was passionate about after having a small home-based baking business—which ended up feeling like a chore because I never enjoyed baking. So fashion, business, and I just seemed like the perfect fit.
How long has it been running?
Since November 2015.
What’s been the best thing that has happened to BONITA so far?
This interview! And my day is made too when I get customers’ words of appreciation and praise about my pieces.
What are you looking forward to for BONITA?
I’m excited for the upcoming collection I’m working on for this year; it’s a tad more sophisticated and will set the tone for what BONITA is all about. I’m also looking forward to joining a physical concept store hopefully by next year.
