About 30 years ago, Nike has collaborated with the 1989 science fiction film, Back to the Future 2, to create a futuristic pair of shoes that would have been any sneakerhead’s dream come true. The fans of the movie knew it as Marty McFly’s self-lacing, light-up sneakers. But today, a more appropriate term to call it would be the 2015 Nike Mag.
“We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes.” – Mark Parker, Nike's President and Chief Executive Officer
A product of today’s cutting-edge technology, as predicted by the Robert Zemeckis-directed film, the 2015 edition of Nike Mag is an inimitable design featuring “power laces” and an individually responsive system that senses the wearer’s motion while providing comfort and support. Nike was able to turn fiction into a fact with a game-changing footwear that is now being dubbed as the most futuristic and iconic shoe of all time.
Being the icon who started it all, actor Michael J. Fox had the pleasure of being the first wearer of this breakthrough footwear. And as much as we’re hoping to get our hands on the next pair, unfortunately, this is a limited edition release that will only be available via auction. All the proceeds will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Oh well, maybe next time. Who knows what the future holds, right?
