Though white sneakers still reign supreme—and it looks like they’re not going anywhere just yet—we’re ready to parcel out our attention to the black beauties. After all, haven’t we all heard it before? Black is beautiful.
To start off your move to the dark side, Nike just launched its Beautiful X Powerful Collection and we’re instantly smitten. Four iconic sneaker styles namely the Cortez (Nike’s first ever running shoe), Air Max Thea, Air Presto, and Air Huarache were reimagined in triple-black stretch leather—and to us, black and leather virtually spell powerful.

It’s also interesting to know that this latest innovation by the footwear brand was inspired by “female athletes and their boundary-breaking accomplishments,” starting with Joan Benoit Samuelson. She was the first female marathon runner who won gold at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and has been a key player in reshaping the running world for women since.

The Beautiful X Powerful Collection imbues the same maxim that Samuelson and many other athletes live by, “There is no finish line.” The shoes were designed to celebrate the powerful women in sports who break boundaries, challenge conventions, and earn victories.
Aside from the all-black leather offerings, the collection will also release a Jacquard version that features “a speed-stripe, jacquard-woven material that is inspired by the winning lap and iconography of Samuelson’s race."
