Whether you've been crying over your childhood crush over Nick Jonas (and the fact that you guys won't be getting married IRL) or fangirling over the gorgeous photos from his engagement party with Priyanka Chopra, one thing's for sure: We're all ridiculously happy for the new couple and can't wait to see what their future holds!
After flying to India to attend the official roka ceremony (traditionally celebrated with family and friends of the bride and groom) photos of the two surfaced online in formal Indian attire:
We were pretty curious about what they were wearing and did a little digging to find out more about these outfits. Here's what we discovered:
Priyanka's dress is actually called an anarkali, which gained popularity by being the festive dress of choice. It's traditionally worn in weddings and formal functions until this day, which is why it doesn't surprise us at all that Priyanka chose to wear this to her roka! Oh, and the word anarkali actually means "pomegranate blossom." No wonder it's designed to exude beauty!
Nick is dressed in a much simpler kurta pajama, which has been popular among both genders for both formal and informal occasions. This versatile piece of clothing isn't just worn in India, but even in Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. Like the Japanese kimono (another wildly popular traditional Asian garment we're familiar with), the kurta can be worn casually, paired with something as laidback as denim jeans! I don't know about you but I think Nick would kill it in this combo, too!
