Every so often, the fashion industry experiences a gleeful disturbance by way of new trends and items to work with. This could be through emerging local brands making a splash or through more established labels finding their way to your favorite luxury stores. Tired of your usual shopping route? These fresh sartorial finds in Manila will keep you looking updated:

Kaayo

Adding to the growing list of brands with wearable, traditionally woven pieces is Kaayo. Hailing from Mindanao, this local brand helmed by Marga Nograles brings a southern artisanal spirit into each and every piece that they produce.

Working together with Mindanaoan tribes, Nograles aims to uplift and support these tribes by providing livelihood to them, as well as to showcase the intricacies of their heritage. In addition to its popular tangkulo scarves that highlight different colors, textures, as well as those identifiable pom poms, Kaayo also has a variety of items that can easily integrate into your wardrobe, rain or shine.

The recent opening of its pop up store at SM Aura Premier already indicates the appeal and demand for Kaayo's creations, which allows more people to access these specially crafted pieces with ease. —JACQUI HALILI CO-SALONGA

Sassi

There's a subtle elegance that comes with a Sassi creation. The word Sassi comes from the Italian word for gemstone, and each of its handcrafted pieces of jewelry is cast in 18-karat gold. Its founder, Renilde Vervoort, is an art historian and possesses a deep appreciation of age-old techniques in jewelry making.

The emerging European designer first dabbled in jewelry making before her daughter turned 18. A dedicated mother, Renilde wanted to make a custom necklace for her daughter. This brought out her inner creative. For her first collection, while taking up a program at the International Gemological Institute, she traveled to Jaipur, India to look for the perfect stones and worked with craftsmen in Dubai to create the settings.

Each design is special to the London-based Renilde, who has so far created a collection of wearable art pieces inspired by personalities in history, royalty, mythical creatures, and stories buildings. Apart from its aesthetic, some of its jewelry function like puzzle pieces—stackable rings from the Zeste collection, mosaic-inspired gemstones on pendants that the wearer can adjust and rotate in the Tesserae line, and an Armillary sphere-inspired ring that can easily be converted into a pendant.

Sassi is exclusively distributed at the Jul B Dizon boutiques at The Peninsula Manila and EDSA Shangri-La.

Delpozo

Recently minted creative director Lutz Huelle takes the reins from Josep Font and continues to reimagine what femininity means with every passing collection of Spanish luxury brand Delpozo. Every dress, every blouse, every pair of trousers and shoes possesses a clean-cut and dainty aesthetic that is made playful with pops of color, exaggerated ruffles, oversized bows, or vibrant embroidery.

Misaki Monaco

These aren't your grandmother's pearls. Monaco-based jewelry retailer Misaki has been exploring unconventional designs for pearl jewelry since its founding in 1987. It initially launched as a travel retail brand and was exclusively distributed on airlines and at airports until 2014, when it was absorbed by the Alteal Group. While it continues to be available in over 30 airlines, Misaki has expanded to 70 shops across 40 countries. Many of the pearls used in its jewelry are of the Ayoka variation and come from Japan. Misaki Monaco continues to expand its Asian portfolio, as it has just launched a new boutique in Shangri-La Plaza in 2018.

Giaquinto

Barely four years since its incorporation, Italian handbag brand Giaquinto shies away from the traditional handbag silhouette and opts for contemporary shapes rooted in an artist's mental chaos. A Giaquinto bag is easily recognizable for its functional minimalism and quality craftsmanship, as each piece is made in Italy and from premium calfskin leather.
