While designers are trading in strappy stilettos for lace-up trainers, some might be veering too close to the normcore norm. New Balance gets fired up as they sue Karl Lagerfeld for mimicking its signature sneaker in a style for his namesake line. New Balance released a statement last June 3, 2014 saying that “New Balance filed a lawsuit against Karl Lagerfelt to protect our poperty rights related to our iconic Lifestyle footwear designs. Although we cannot comment on the specifics of the case, we believe it is vital to actively and vigorously defend our brand.”
Yikes. As they say, good designers copy while great designers steal. Say it ain’t so, Karl.
