Twenty-seven year old model and medical student Dede Howard has recreated major fashion and beauty campaigns that originally feature white models for a series called “Black Mirror.”

It's her way of fighting against the fashion industry's lack of diversity—the photos, shot by Raffael Dickreuter, are a response to the discrimination that Dede has faced in her own career. “Agencies would often tell me, ‘We like your look but there’s a black girl already.’ It shouldn’t be limited to just one black girl; there can be more than one!” she says in an interview with BuzzFeed. “It’s as if [the agencies] are ashamed to represent diversity."

"In a time where black people too often are in the media for being underrepresented at important events such as the Oscars or make headlines for being targeted by the police I felt it was time to do something positive and inspiring about my race. For too long the negativity seemed to take over in the public eye," she says in her mission statement.

"More equal visibility of all races, be it white, black, Asian, [or] Latino, would help all of us [to believe] in our potential." We couldn't agree more. Slay, Dede! Check the full set here.
