In less than a month, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu will be passing on the crown to her successor—and what a stunning crown it will be.
Last December 19, the pageant's organizing body officially revealed the new "Force for Good" crown that will rest on the head of this year's winner. A collaboration with luxury jewelry house Mouwad, the piece is embellished with the most exquisite pear-shaped sapphires and diamonds.

Anne Jakrajutatip, the competition's newly-minted owner, stated that the crown "stands for a graceful reincarnation of The Miss Universe Organization's long-standing values and heritage as a guiding light." She adds that it symbolizes the challenges young women face when they fight for the advocacies close to their hearts and the rewards that they reap after doing so.
"As we are stepping into the new era of women's empowerment, the Miss Universe Organization will continue to be a global organization run by women, for women... The Miss Universe brand is keen to take on a pivotal role in involving and engaging people on a journey toward social inclusion, gender equality and environmental sustainability," adds the JKN Group CEO.

Representatives from Mouwad wax about the significance behind the crown's craftsmanship. "The base of the crown is set with diamonds symbolizing the status quo. From the base upwards, rippling wave motifs reflect the momentum of change, with their varying sizes portraying that this momentum gains ground through advocacy at different moments and places."
A jaw-dropping 993 stones were arranged by hand, featuring 110.83 carast of blue sapphires and 48.24 carats of white diamonds. These precious jewels are estimated to cost anywhere near $5.58 million in total, which is approximately P309,282,660!

As the hues of blue deepen towards the tip of the crown, a stunning pear-shaped sapphire, valued at 45.14 carats, showcases the good one can achieve through "persistent action and hope for a brighter future." Beautiful!
The Miss Universe 2022 pageant is happening this January 14, 2022 in New Orleans. Mark your calendars!
