Maria Isabela Galeria gave pageant fans a look on what her national costume would have been for Miss Universe Philippines 2020. The representative of Sorsogon is garbed in a gown made out of shells. It is designed by "Sorsoganon courterier" Frankie de Leon.
Her costume particuarly pays homage to Gubat, Sorsogon, which is "known for the Chandeliers made out of shells." See the costume below:
Isabela is a COVID-19 survivor. She tested positive on September 27, a month away from the Miss Universe Philippines competition.
The beauty queen underwent tests on October 11 and tested negative. Despite the result, Isabela decided to withdraw from the competition to fully recover from the virus.
She said in her announcement last October 15: "With a heavy heart, I believe now is not the right time to join the pageant. I still feel tired, and I don't think my body will allow me to participate in the activities of Miss Universe Philippines.
"I hope you understand this is something beyond my control. I've thought hard and cried for so many nights about this. I have the willpower, but my body is not cooperating. I'm praying for your utmost understanding."
Isabela was among the early standouts in the competition, thanks to the outgoing support of GMA-7 actress Heart Evangelista.
