"Sublime meets ridiculous," Mihara Yasuhiro quips when asked about the look of his collection for Bench Fashion Week 2019. The renowned fashion designer, beloved by top-tier Japanese stars like Arashi and Shun Oguri, further explains: "The theme is 'justified error.' Nowadays, technology is getting very advanced. Artificial intelligence is being utilized in a lot of fields and industries. And now, we're also able to fix the bugs. Technology is making less errors. They're getting to become perfect. Because of that, human error now becomes more obvious. The errors that we make are our human weaknesses. They really do happen, and [the idea is that] we shouldn't ignore the mistakes—instead, we should recognize that [humanity]. I want to show that we're not perfect, and in that imperfection, there's something to be expressed. That's the point I want to make."
Well-taken, on our end! Here, scroll through the latest example of Mihara's signature hybrid, reconstructed, jigsaw-esque aesthetic fit for the undivided attention of Tokyo's prowling street style photographers.
