“It’s nice that Bizu collaborated with us designers. Wedding is really a wonderful experience, so if you’ll get to have a good experience from the caterer and the wedding gown also, it adds to the wonderful experience that you will be having. I’m thankful that Bizu tapped me to collaborate with them.”

Let's talk about your new bridal collection. How did you come up with the designs?
“Well, about the designs. I always wanted to show versatility on my wedding gowns. Because we have different types of brides eh—some are more dainty, some are more flamboyant, some want it detailed, and some just like it classy with lace. So every time I present a wedding collection, I always want to showcase different styles, different silhouettes, different fabrics, to fit every time of bride in my wedding gowns.”
What were your inspirations for this line?
“Well, for this one, my inspirations are the modern brides also. They want it to be classic and elegant, and at the same time timeless. So every time I make a gown, I always have to consider the one who’s going to be wearing it.”
How is the design process different from your other collections of evening wear?
“Doing wedding gowns is really hard sometimes, actually most of the time, because that’s the special gown that you will be wearing on your special day. So, aside from it being very intricate and detailed, it should have that special touch of the bride also. It’s very different from evening wear. Evening wear is an ordinary dress, a gown that you use just to attend a party. For this, every piece has to be unique.”
Can you tell us about your favorite piece in the collection?
“My favorite is the one that’s displayed, the ball gown. I’m such a fan of fairytales, Cinderella baby ako eh. Parang one day, Prince Charming will come. Every time, I always make sure [that] in my collection there will be that one grand piece [that could be a] part of a fairytale. Parang prinsesa.”
What advice can you give brides-to-be in selecting the perfect wedding dress?
“I want the gowns to be them. I want you to be you on your wedding day. And choosing a wedding gown, it has to reflect your personality. During your wedding day, it’s you who’s the most important person there. I want you to feel like you are at your prettiest, or that you’re the most beautiful girl in the event. So, it has to be you, it affects how [you] carry the gown as well.”
What can a bride expect in a Michael Leyva creation?
“A happy bride.”
