We were wondering how Michael Cinco’s outing for Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 would be different from the Red Cross Ball, which was a little over a week ago. There were a number of notable changes in the show but it was no less enthralling.
First, the set already built anticipation the moment we walked in; gold brick doors, a path of gold crystals and a circular shallow pit in the center intrigued.
Second, the line-up was edited down from the Red Cross show but a few pieces were added. We were witness to Michael’s tailoring skills as white suits and menswear made an appearance on the ramp. The woman’s suit had an emblem made of two swans composed of mother of pearl pieces sewn across the entire back.
Third, Anne Curtis, L’Oreal Paris’ hair ambassadress, walked the ramp for the brand once again in a brilliant red. Last season, the actress also walked for the three shows that were sponsored by L’Oreal. It was she who was beside Michael when he took his final bow and left the catwalk.
Lastly, Claire Unabia, also known as Claire James of America’s Next Top Model cycle 10, was part of the show’s finale again but a different drama unfolded. She came out cloaked and walked the length of the runway before joining the male “gods” of Michael Cinco at the circular pit in the center. And as she shed the coat, a shower of water from above poured down on all of them and she moved slowly in the rain, clad in a nude tulle column whose crystal pattern covered only the chest and pelvic area.
We might have seen most of the dresses a second time around, not a bad thing considering we enjoy staring at beautiful gowns, but the production was more theatrical, harkening back to his last Philippine Fashion Week show where faux snowfall had all of us enchanted.
