One of young Manila’s favorite designers for ultra-feminine ensembles, Mich Araullo, showcased her holiday collection at the grand launch of Encore’s latest Friday offering, Mixology. Ten muses—Xeng Zulueta, Mikaela Lagdameo-Martinez, Crystal Ozamis, Bea Constantino, Patty Laurel, Jen Kelly, Anielle Santos, Alex Suarez, Nicole Jacinto, and Erin Campos—all dressed up in Mich's dainty, draped creations, which she describes as “a very subtle and fresh approach to welcome the holiday season.”
“For this collection, I decided to go for a very delicate, ethereal, and sophisticated look. My color palette consists of very soft, subdued tones such as nude, taupe, blush, caramel and mauve,” says Mich about her latest designs. “I did a lot draping, ruching, and gathers. Hints of barely-there mesh accent some parts of the dresses just to play with the imagination. I used silk mesh because I love how it hugs and flatters a woman’s curves.”
The clothes are evidently very feminine—from the muted color story to their hugging emphasis of the female form. And the designer clearly had a lot of fun with her fabric of choice—gathering it into densely packed layers to achieve texture, and draping it every which way to flatter and accentuate her muses’ lovely curves.
Mich enthuses, “I really find joy in playing around with fabrics, and discovering new techniques in draping. The possibilities are endless and I just love exploring them!”
Asked about her design aesthetic, she explains, “I have only been in the business for 5 years but I can say that I work better on very soft, feminine pieces. Bold, structured styles really aren’t for me.”
