Marking their Filipina heritage in the streets of the Big Apple, the two pageant regulars stood alongside Xian Lim for the early celebration. While the actor looked spiffy in a crisp barong with a flag on hand, the queens dabbled in coordinating terno ensembles, courtesy of Filipino designer Cherry Samuya Veric.

Miss World 2013 Megan Young was wrapped in a spunky take on the Filipiniana, fusing homegrown elements with the quintessential marks of New York City. Dressed by celebrity stylist Adrianne Concepcion, Megan’s terno of the day echoed the hues of the metro’s police tapes and the vibrant shade of yellow taxis.

Meanwhile, the ensemble of Miss Universe 2010’s fourth runner-up Venus Raj had another take on the Filipiniana and New York sensibilities. With a similar silhouette and swaths of fabric, Venus’ terno took cues from the hallmark newspaper The New York Times

The piece, which resembled wrappings of broadsheets, reflected the newsworthy status of Filipino design. “The news? Filipino style is top of the universe,” Cherry explained in an Instagram post.
