PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR INSPIRATION FOR THE COLLECTION. WHY THE TITLE “LADY DANGER”?
I’ve always been in love with the idea of women as strong, realistic, attached to day by day issues, unpretentious—but for this collection, I was thinking of a woman who’s unafraid to experience pain, unafraid to be in danger, [someone who's] a risk taker, someone’s who’s not worried of getting in trouble or someone who’s not afraid to face any problem or issues.
I couldn’t think of a title until one day, my very good friend Pam Quiñones was wearing a bright red lip color, and I thought, “Wow, it takes someone brave and fierce [to wear] such a bold lip color like that!” I asked her for the name of her lip shade and it was “Lady Danger” and it was just a light bulb moment. “Lady Danger” just spoke to me; [it] inspired [me] so much.
WHAT MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE?
I used a lot of different materials in this collection but I made sure everything was breathable and easy—jersey, chiffon, rayon knits, lace, duchesse satin, silk satin, leatherette and cotton twill—[and] strategically draped; I made a lot of dangerously sexy cutouts, played with silhouette and proportion, made the fabric just flow naturally and move with the wearer’s body.
WHAT ARE ITS SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES TO YOUR PAST COLLECTIONS?
Similarities: easy, breathable, understated elegance! There is evidence of my obsession with black and beige! Difference: the use of more than 3 colors in one collection! And the use of red was something I really enjoyed because it was the first time I used it for a collection, although I've attempted using it a lot of times but it didn’t work, so it felt like it came at the right time with the right mood.
WHO DO YOU ENVISION WEARING THESE PARTICULAR PIECES?
Women of all ages, sizes, shapes, colors, personalities—I made sure there is something for everyone in the collection.
WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR MUSES FOR THIS COLLECTION? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?
I am privileged to have these girls (Danica Flores-Magpantay, Georgina Wilson, Karylle, Bea Constantino, Solenn Heussaff, Divine Lee, Pam Quiñones & Ruffa Gutierrez) as my muses for the launch my collection. I chose girls who represent different characters and personalities, women who have different styles and tastes in fashion as I wanted to really explore how I can make the collection very versatile.
DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE GARMENTS FROM THIS COLLECTION?
Honestly, I couldn’t pick a favorite because I really love all the looks and the pieces from the collection! But there’s one chiffon piece from the collection that can be worn as a top, a dress or a gown, depending on how creatively you can control the garment. I just really love it when a piece can be worn many times! I think a good dress is something that you can wear a second time, and doesn’t look like the same as when you wore it the first time!
WHAT CAN WE LOOK FORWARD TO FOR YOUR NEXT COLLECTION?
That’s very hard to tell! But my forever dedication to making women feel good will always be the ultimate goal in making clothes.
